Rare vintage velvet hand embroidered huipil, circa 1960s. Untested, sold AS-IS. Measurements (laying flat): 23” across front, 23” long (shoulder to bottom), 16” armhole opening, 24” neck opening, 46” bust and waist circumference. A unique black velvet blouse with exquisite hand embroidered green flowers and borders. Pattern adorns both front and back. Huipils are traditional garments worn by indigenous women from central Mexico into Central America. Handmade and one-of-a-kind, each takes at least one month to complete. This textile art form has been passed down from generation to generation in Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico, dating back to pre-Colonial times. Made popular by Frida Kahlo, this style is very boho chic. Wear with jeans or display as wall art!
